Vanna Vinci

Vanna Vinci was born in Cagliari. After graduating from the European Institute of Design in Cagliari, she worked in the advertising graphics sector for some years. He has published two short stories on Fumo di China by Marcello Toninelli. Then, at the end of the eighties, struck on the road to Bologna by the opening of the Granata Press by Luigi Bernardi and Roberto Ghiddi, he decided to dedicate himself to comics and published his first real story (L'Altra parte) on Nova Express, which was followed by the volume. He hasn’t stopped making comic books since. After the experience of Granata, she continued her journey as an author with Kappa Edizioni, publishing episodic stories in the seminal magazine Mondo Naif and then in monographic volumes. The comics novels have been joined by the production of strips and cartoons of the sulfurous Girl Philosophical, a kind of sardonic alter ego output muted first on Mondo Naif, then on Linus and finally in lucky monographic volumes. There followed publications and collaborations with Rizzoli Lizard, Bao Publishing, Feltrinelli Comics and 24 Hours Culture with which he published the biography: Frida, comic amoral operetta, true best seller reprinted several times in Italy and sold in several languages including English and Korean, which has sold more than forty thousand copies of Italian and foreign releases.
After creating stories with a daily and intimate theme, with incursions into the fantastic, into the tale of ghosts and other aspects of the supernatural, he inaugurated a series of comic book biographies (the first release in 2013 for Dargaud) analyzing the figure and the female question: La Casati, Tamara de Lempicka, Frida Kahlo, Maria Callas and the seven great libertines of the Paris of the Belle Epoque of Parle-moi d'amour.
His books have been translated into France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, Korea, Poland.
At the moment he is working on a miniseries entitled Viaggio notturno, for Sergio Bonelli Editore. The first volume, La casa, was released in November 2023.
She has collaborated with several children’s publishers and as an author has published some books for Mondadori Ragazzi, including the Jurassic girl.
He won the Yellow Kid for best designer in 1999 and the Guinigi in 2005. In 2001, his book The Wild Age, written by Giovanni Mattioli, won the Romics Award for Best Work of the European School. In 2015 he received the Boscarato award for best author, in 2016 the Satire prize and in 2021, the book Parle-moi d'amour won the Coco award for best book of the year.
He lives and works in Bologna, Milan and Cagliari.
