The comic that tells the story of society
How does comics narrate current events, the phenomenon of immigration, and second/new generations? Starting from the graphic novel Once Upon a Time in the East (Tunué), author Boban Pesov engages in conversation with rapper Doppeltata.
Boban Pesov, born in Macedonia in 1988, is a second-generation immigrant in Italy since 1996. Raised in Italy, he graduated from the Pint Gallizio Art High School in Alba and later earned a degree in Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Turin. He first gained recognition with his creative content on YouTube and later on other platforms such as Instagram. At Lucca Comics, he presents his graphic novel published by Tunué, Once Upon a Time in the East.
Doppelgänger, stage name of Alen Ðokić, is a Roman rapper of Bosnian origin who has won over audiences since 2021, going viral on TikTok. His lyrics — in Italian, English, and Bosnian — narrate the experience of second generations in the Balkans and beyond. He has collaborated with internationally renowned artists such as Frenkie and Dubioza Kolektiv and has released two EPs, BALKAN REPRESENT VOL.1 and VOL.2. With over one million followers on TikTok and 250,000 on Instagram, he is one of the most interesting emerging voices on today’s hip-hop scene.
