Superheroines: costumes, identities and the artist’s gaze – Meeting with Elena Casagrande
What truly defines the identity of a superheroine? Who is she beyond action, and how are personality, role, and imagery constructed? It is not only what we see, but the result of a complex narrative and visual process: from script to page, where the screenplay takes shape through the artist’s linework, rhythm, and compositional choices.
Identity thus emerges as a dynamic balance between psychological introspection and visual representation, between private identity and public persona. Origins, values, strength, and vulnerability of the heroine, both within and beyond action.
Linked to the Superheroines exhibition, this meeting with one of the most highly regarded and internationally awarded Italian artists, Elena Casagrande, guides us in exploring the identity of superheroines in comics, highlighting the dialogue between writing and drawing and the subtle boundary between ordinary life and the heroic dimension.
Speakers: Elena Casagrande and Sabrina Perucca.
