Sara Pichelli, Golden Romics of the 36th edition
From comics to the big screen: the author of Miles Morales, the first African-American Spider-Man, protagonist of an Oscar-winning film, awarded the Golden Romics
Pichelli, one of the most important Italian authors in the international comics scene and a historic artist of the Marvel Comics team, will be celebrated with the awarding of the Romics d'Oro during the 36th edition of Romics, scheduled from April 9 to 12, 2026 at Fiera Roma.
Born in 1983, Sara Pichelli is among the most influential and appreciated Italian cartoonists on the international scene. She is best known for visually creating Miles Morales, the new Spider-Man of the Ultimate universe, a character who has become an icon of contemporary pop culture.
His collaboration with Marvel Comics began in 2008, after winning the international Chester Quest contest. Since then Pichelli has been working on numerous House of Ideas titles, including NYX, Namora, X-Men and Guardians of the Galaxy. Success came with the second volume of Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man, co-created with Brian Michael Bendis, which led to the co-creation of Miles Morales and earned her an Eagle Award and a Harvey Award in 2011, followed in 2012 by two Stan Lee Awards.
In 2014, she was selected as one of the Marvel Young Guns, the group of authors the publisher chooses to invest in for the future. In 2017, he returned to Spider-Man, marking Miles Morales' definitive entry into the main Marvel universe, before continuing his partnership with Bendis in the second installment of the Spider-Men saga.
Between 2018 and 2019 he took part in the relaunch of the Fantastic Four, in the series written by Dan Slott. Between 2020 and 2021 he made a Spider-Man special written by director JJ Abrams along with his son Henry Abrams. More recently, between 2022 and 2023, he oversaw the launch of the new solo Scarlet Witch series, written by Steve Orlando, confirming his central role in the international comics landscape.
During the 36th edition of Romics, Sara Pichelli will be the protagonist of a meeting with the public dedicated to her artistic journey, from her first experiences to her international success in Marvel Comics. His art will also be the focus of a solo exhibition, with original plates and reproductions, which retraces his artistic journey and his contribution to the construction of an internationally recognized imagination.
