Romics Special Award to Laura Pérez: The Art of Contemporary Illustration and Graphic Novels

Laura Pérez, illustrator and graphic novelist, one of the most original and acclaimed voices in contemporary European comics, will receive the Romics Special Award at the 37th edition of Romics.

Born in Valencia in 1983, Laura Pérez has built an international career, collaborating with prestigious institutions and publishers including the MoMA, The Washington Post, National Geographic, The Wall Street Journal, Vanity Fair, Wacom, El País, and Penguin Random House. Her refined and highly evocative style, blending mystery, introspection, and imagination, has made her one of the most celebrated creators on today's comics scene.

In the following years, she created several critically acclaimed works, including Totem, Espanto, Nocturnos (published in Italy by Oblomov Edizioni), winner of the Special Jury Prize at the 2025 Romics Comics Award, translated into several languages and currently nominated for both the Eisner Awards and the Harvey Awards, as well as El Iglú, further confirming her distinctive artistic vision, which explores the boundaries between reality, dreams, and the supernatural.

In 2022, she was also nominated for an Emmy Award for the opening title sequence of the television series Only Murders in the Building (Disney+), created in collaboration with the American studio Elastic, further demonstrating the versatility of her artistic language and her ability to work across publishing, illustration, and audiovisual media.
