Laura Pérez (Valencia, 1983) is an illustrator and graphic novelist whose work has appeared in publications and for publishers in Spain and abroad, including the “MoMA”, “The Washington Post”, “National Geographic”, “The Wall Street Journal”, “Vanity Fair”, “Wacom”, “American Airlines”, “Fnac”, “El País”, and Penguin Random House, among others.
She has contributed to several collective illustration books, including “Illustration Now! 4” (Taschen), “Ilustradores españoles” (Lunwerg), and “Women’s Club. Art Is Powerful” (Monsa Publications). Her work has also been recognized by the “Communication Arts Illustration Annual” and “3x3: The Magazine of Contemporary Illustration”.
In 2015, she won the Valencia Crea First Prize for her short comic “Empatía (Empathy)”. She later contributed a long-form comic to the anthology “De muerte” (GP Ediciones, 2016) and published her first graphic novel, “Castaways” (Náufragos, Salamandra, 2016), written by Pablo Monforte, after winning the 9th Fnac–Salamandra Graphic Novel Award. The book was subsequently published in France, Italy, and the United States.
She was selected for the 1st National Comic Competition of the Biblioteca Insular de Gran Canaria with her short comic “Juega” (Play), which appeared in the anthology “En corto” (Astiberri, 2018). She also illustrated “The Secrets of Witches” (Los secretos de las brujas, Errata Naturae, 2020), written by Elsa Whyte and Julie Légère, and “Legendary Mermaids” (Sirenas de leyenda, Errata Naturae, 2021), written by Rémy Giordano and Olivia Godat.
In 2022, she received an Emmy Award nomination for the main title sequence of the television series “Only Murders in the Building” (Disney+), created in collaboration with the American design studio Elastic.
She is the author of “Ocultos” (Hidden, Astiberri, 2019), her first solo graphic novel, which won the inaugural El Ojo Crítico Award for Comics (2020), the Ignotus Award for Best Spanish Comic (2020), and the Splash Sagunt Award for Best Spanish Graphic Novel (2019). The book has also been published in the United States and Slovenia. She later published “Totem” (Astiberri, 2021),(Oblomov 2026), also released in Brazil, the United States, and Slovenia; “Espanto” (Astiberri, 2022); and “Nocturnos” (Astiberri, 2024),(Oblomov, 2025), which has received multiple awards, been translated into several languages, and is currently nominated for the Eisner Awards and Harvey Award.
