From Jaws to Back to the Future: Kevin Pike, Hollywood's Special Effects Maestro, to Receive the Romics d'Oro

Kevin Pike, one of the foremost innovators in the field of Special Effects, will be honored with the Romics d'Oro award during the 35th edition of the Festival, scheduled to take place from October 2 to 5, 2025, at Fiera Roma.

After a life journey that almost accidentally led him behind the scenes of a movie set, Kevin Pike took his first steps in the world of cinema with Jaws (1975) by Steven Spielberg, which, in 2025, celebrates its 50th anniversary. This marked the beginning of an extraordinary career that would see him collaborate with some of the greatest directors in film history, including Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, John Schlesinger, Tim Burton, Taylor Hackford, Gore Verbinski, Jan de Bont, and David Fincher.

As a Special Effects Supervisor, he worked on films that have left an indelible mark on the collective imagination, including Jaws (1975), Islands in the Stream (1977), Back to the Future (1985)—which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year—and collaborations with productions directed by legendary filmmakers like Spielberg and Lucas. His work has contributed to making unforgettable films that shaped the history of contemporary cinema.

Throughout his career, Pike has received numerous accolades, including a Primetime Emmy Award for Earth 2 (1995), and was considered for an Academy Award nomination for Back to the Future (1985) by Robert Zemeckis. He also won a Clio Award for Best Special Effects (2000) for the Levi’s Invisible Man commercial, directed by Michael Bay.

Pike is a member of leading international professional associations (DGA, SAG/AFTRA, BAFTA) and has served on the Visual Effects Committees of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Television Academy.
