Fabio Civitelli (Lucignano, 9 April 1955) is an Italian cartoonist and illustrator, one of the main designers of the “Tex” comic series for over thirty years.
He started as a comic book designer in 1974, making some episodes of the erotic series "Lady Lust" by Edifumetto on behalf of the studio of Graziano Origa. Also collaborates with Rizzoli, Editoriale Dardo and Ediperiodici for which he replaces the designer Bruno Marraffa in the series Zordon; for the publishing house Universe collaborates in 1977 to the magazines "Il Monello" and "Intrepido" and, in 1979, to Bliz, for the series "Doctor Salomon", written by Silverio Pisu; in the same year he made some stories with Marvel characters of "Spider Man" and "Fantastic Four" for the magazine "SuperGulp!" of Mondadori.
In this period he used the pseudonym "Pablo de Almaviva", something that the editor Sergio Bonelli later told him to have prevented him from understanding who he was and that it will delay his entry into the staff of his publishing house. Anyway, in 1979, thanks to Fernando Fusco was presented Sergio Bonelli who initially hired him for the series "Mister No", for which he will make some stories published from 1980 to 1984 on texts by Alfredo Castelli, Claudio Nizzi and Tiziano Sclavi. The character will return only in 1994 with a "Adventure Almanac".
Based on texts by Giuseppe Ferrandino, he also drew in 1983 the stories “Pomeriggio cubano”, published in the magazine Orient Express della Bonelli and “L'Avana - Serenata Cubana” , for the revised edition of Giungla!
In 1984 he joined the staff of designers for the "Tex" series, starting in 1985 with no. 293, on texts by Claudio Nizzi, a screenwriter with whom he collaborated almost continuously until 2008 and with whom he also created subjects for some stories about the character. In 2007 he was entrusted with the 60th anniversary celebration of the character of Tex, On the path of memories, published in 2008; from this moment he became a protagonist of numerous publishing and cultural initiatives that made him known, both in Italy and abroad.
In November 2010, with the collaboration of Moreno Burattini, is published in 500 copies the volume "Il mio Tex - La ballata del West" by Civitelli and Verger, a special collection of ninety unpublished drawings. A few months later he will also complete the twelve illustrations of the book "Tex Willer - Il romanzo della mia vita", novel with the fictional biography of the character written by Mauro Boselli and published by Mondadori, for which he will be inspired by the typical style of nineteenth-century illustrators.
In 2012 he also published a volume of the "Texoni, La cavalcata del morto" series, written by Mauro Boselli; the story was then reprinted in a new edition by Little Nemo, in limited edition with a new cover.
At the same time, in parallel to his work as a cartoonist, he also started painting with "Texian" paintings made with the black and white technique.
In April 2014 he also debuts on the series "Dylan Dog" with the story "Le radici del male," a short story written by Michele Masiero and published on the twelfth album of the series “Dylan Dog Color Fest”.
