WASHI: The production and charm of Japanese paper

It is not known for certain when paper was invented, but the first fragments were found in China in the 2nd century BC. In Japan it was introduced starting from the 7th century via Korea. Many have testified to the beauty of Japanese paper: in the 16th century missionaries used it to communicate with their country, while in the 17th century the Dutch painter Rembrandt used it for his copper engravings.
Since its invention, a long time ago, paper making techniques have evolved, and nowadays it has become an indispensable tool in daily life, we could define it as one of the most important materials of our lives. However, in today's society, the existence of paper is taken almost for granted and unfortunately no one seems to reflect on its importance.
