The awards ceremony of the XXII edition of Romics took place on Sunday 8 April to celebrate illustrious names from the world of comics, illustration and international cinema.
Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri was awarded the Golden Romics for his career, an extraordinary artistic path which saw him involved on characters such as Druuna and Tex, from science fiction to western and all the worlds created by his amazing talent.
After his beginnings as a painter and illustrator, in the Seventies Serpieri made his approach to comics. His elegant and refined style and at the same time material and sensual is absolutely unmistakable.
The Golden Romics was also given to Shawn Martinbrough, illustrator of Batman, Captain America, Hellboy, and of the series Thief of Thieves, published in Italy by saldaPress. The american author thanked the organization for his wonderful experience at Romics. The prize strenghtened the long-standing partnership between Romics and saldaPress that on this occasion has proposed a special Thief of Thieves-themed card signed by the author. Kevin Jenkins, art director of cult movies such as “Star Wars”, “Guardians of the Galaxy” and ” The Golden Compass” was awarded the Golden Romics and received a second Golden Romics to be delivered to his colleague Ben Morris, special effects director at Industrial Light & Magic, who took part in important works such as “ Gladiator”, “Gravity” and “Harry Potter”.
On the occasion of the “Beatles Comics” exhibition, organized in collaboration with Solares Fondazione delle Arti, the artists Laura Perez Vernetti, Massimo Rotundo, Midori Yamane, Yoshiko Watanabe, Mauro De Luca, received a special plaque for having revisited in a graphic key with their works the extraordinary adventure of the Fab Four.
Fabio Gregori, Corporate Affairs and Sales Manager of Poste Italiane Filatelia, has presented a Beatles-themed folder of this edition and a off-folder western card created by Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri.
