Music and cinema in dialogue: the tricks of the trade
Music is undoubtedly the most powerful form of expression and, in cinema, has always played a fundamental role alongside images. It is almost never just a musical comment, but represents a real added value to the scene. The use of a particular music combined with an image tells much more than the eye can suggest. It can strengthen emotions, counter what happens on the screen or predict future events, boosting in a surprising way the suggestions conveyed by the film. Music influences the perception of a film emotionally, affectively and even ideologically. It has the important and fundamental role of expressing what the word or image cannot communicate, revealing psychological and affective movements that sometimes can not be said in any other way.
Angela Forin, Claudio Simonetti, and Mirko Fabbreschi will make us discover how music dialogues with cinema and cinema dialogues with music: you don’t "see" the same thing when you hear and you don’t "feel" the same thing when you see.
