Romics celebrates the great master of manga Furuya Usamaru, author of unmistakable style and extraordinary artistic sensitivity, with the award of the Romics d'Oro. On this unique occasion, the festival will host the absolute world premiere of Shinjū – Una storia d’amore, his new masterpiece published by the Coconino Press brand Doku.
An intense and daring work that explores the boundaries of storytelling without any aesthetic or thematic barriers. A compelling story that follows Kusunoki Noel, an outcast girl and wounded by life, and Toyama Eishin, a young man marked by despair, on a journey through pain and hope. Between bullying, revenge porn, abuse and loneliness, the manga tackles burning issues with extraordinary emotional depth.
Furuya Usamaru’s career, born in Tokyo in 1968, is marked by a multifaceted artistic path. Graduated in oil painting at the Tama Academy, he explored sculpture and butoh dance before debuting in 1994 on the famous underground magazine Garo con Palepoli (Coconino Press, 2021), work that definitively consecrates him to the world of manga. He has signed great success series such as Happiness, Genkaku Picasso, Suicide Club e Lo squalificato, Inspired by the work of Dazai Osamu, bringing his art and his unmistakable style in the main Japanese specialized magazines. His works, translated in the most important Western countries, also include La musica di Marie (winner of the AnimeClick award as best volume of 2019), Plastic Girl, Amane Gymnasium, 51 Modi per proteggerla e le antologie Garden e Sodoma 1985, All published in Italy by Coconino Press.
