Romics, the International Festival of Comics, Animation, Cinema and Games which was held from 5 to 8 October at the New Rome Fair, with over two hundred thousand visitors has consolidated the great success of the past editions. Great artists, exhibitions, previews, large spaces dedicated to cinema and games. The artists who in this edition have received the Golden Romics are: Kevin Jenkins, Art Director of Star Wars; the Academy Award winner for visual effects Ben Morris; Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri, extraordinary illustrator, creator of sensual and suggestive worlds and Shawn Martinbrough, exceptional American noir author, who has illustrated some of the most popular superheroes such as , Batman, Hellboy and Capitan America. Romics has dedicated a huge space to new creative arts and to the entertainment in the world of comics, cinema, videogames, web and a careful look toward the fantasy narrative and illustration for teenagers, with the presence of authors involved in meetings, introductions and special initiatives. The New Talents area, with the great success of the Self Area where many emergent authors have had the opportunity to make known their own art. Music was protagonist with many events and important personalities of the sector: the Exhibition-Event The Beatles Comics, with a large selection of original comic-books plates, collectible items and gadgets, memorabilias, posters, prints and reproductions, clips, dedicated to the kaleidoscopic universe of The Beatles. Among the authors who have paid tribute to the Fab Four: Rotundo, Barbieri, Sicomoro, De Luca, Staino, Babini and many others. Remaining on music, great success for the talk show with Francesco Gabbani, recent winner of Sanremo Festival. There was a great interest also for the other exhibitions: the visual journey through the west, heroines and the science fiction of Serpieri; Diabolik at the Wall composed by half a century of covers, artistic reproductions, posters dedicated to the King of Terror and a tribute to Sergio Zaniboni, eminent master of comics art. The exhibition has also proposed some truly unique pieces such as the one of Mimmo Rotella made with the famous method of “torn posters” passing through works created over the years by artists such as Milo Manara and Ferenc Pinter and obviously all the most significant Diabolik’s illustrators.
Over a hundred simultaneous events hosted in 8 different locations: in the Movie Village, a fully booked for the virtual reality stand of IT (Warner Bros), the Mazinga Z preview (Lucky Red) , Renegade (M2Pictures), the encounters on Shannara 2 (Sky Atlantic) and the Universal Monsters. The great Cosplay Contest, with the selection of the cosplayers who will represent Italy at the World Cosplay Summit in Japan; at International Yamato Cosplay Cup in Brazil and at the London Eurocosplay-MCM. In this edition Romics has hosted the final stages of the italian championship of League of Legends, Lega Prima – Romics, in collaboration with GEC, Giochi Elettronici Competitivi and the preview of the new project of Riot Games which consist of promoting the fair play in online games. The launch of the National Contest "The languages of imaginary for the school", in collaboration with Ministry of Education, University and Research; the round table: Migrating drawings – Immigration and Emigration illustrated through comics; the Street Art. Romics has hosted some of the best beloved youtubers such as Favij, I Mates, Eleonora Olivieri. In the occasion of the XXII edition of Romics, Poste Italiane Filatelia has presented a new special minifolder: two artistic postcards fitted with stamp and philatelic obliteration made specifically for the Festival. Romics has consolidated its partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Book and Reading Centre, the Ministry of Education, University and Research and continues its collaboration with Lazio Region. Very significant is the collaboration between Romics and Palazzo delle Esposizioni for the Mangasia exhibition.
