Great Celebrations for the 10th edition of Romics!
....international guests, extraordinary events for the 10th anniversary of Rome’s great Comics Fair.
ROMICS is the great international comics, animation and games festival organized by Fair of Rome and by I Castelli Animati – International Animated Film Festival.
The 2009 edition, held at the New Rome Fair, was attended by more than 75.000 visitors in 4 days.
Every year the most important companies in the sector take part in Romics: publishers, distributors, specialized bookshops, collectors, home-video production companies and distributors, video-games companies.
The Festival is characterized by a cultural programme at international level, with high-profile guests, exhibitions, previews, special events and meetings with representatives of the most important international festivals, buyers and operators in the sector.
Great masters of international comics have taken part in Romics and have been assigned the Golden Romics Award.

GOLDEN ROMICS AWARD-WINNERS
The Masters of International Comics at Romics
Here are the Golden Romics Award-Winners 2010:
Ryoko Ikeda, creator of one of the best-loved characters in the history of Japanese comics and animation: Lady Oscar (Versailles no Bara), will be at Romics to meet her fans and tell us more about her extraordinary artistic career. At the zenith of her career as character artist, Ryoko Ikeda dediced to start studying another of her great passions, opera, and today she is a great soprano who performs all over the world. During her stay in Rome for Romics, Ryoko Ikeda will perform in concert at a prestigious location in the Eternal City. Her presence is organised in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan in Rome.
Claudio Villa, extraordinary artist of Tex, who has taken the place of the graphic creator Aurelio Galleppini in the realisation of the covers of Italy’s most popular comics character.
Chris Ware, from Chicago, the author of Jimmy Corrigan, the graphic novel that has changed the narrative sense and architectural structure of comics.
Among the special guests of Romics, the actress Mary Oyaya, Jedi Mistress of the new Star Wars Trilogy, who will meet Sci-Fi fans and followers of the mythical saga! Her presence is organised in collaboration with the 501st Legion – Italica Garrison, official Star Wars fan club. Mary’s character is also among the protagonists of of the animated series The Clone Wars.
LADY OSCAR CELEBRATION
To celebrate the presence of the great mangaka, Ryoko Ikeda, Romics is organising an exceptional event dedicated to fans of Lady Oscar: special guests from the world of culture and entertainment will pay tribute to this incredible artist, each in their own way, with performances, interviews, songs and lots more for an unforgettable party.
STAR WARS STARS!
Among the special guests, actress Mary Oyaya, Jedi Master of the new Star Wars Trilogy, who will meet sci-fi enthusiasts and fans of the mythical saga! THE SEVEN KINGS OF ROMICS
Seven great artists will take their place on centre-stage at Romics to tell of their careers. They will hold workshops, during which they will illustrate their own techniques and theories on which their creations are based.
UNIVERSITY OF COMICS AND MULTIMEDIA
The cultural programme of Romics includes the University of Comics and Multimedia, realized in collaboration with numerous Italian faculties. The University of Comics and Multimedia is the only event of its kind to have such an organic partnership with the academic world. A programme of lessons on the history, techniques and languages of comics and animation, the relationship between comics and film and multimedia, dubbing and translation for film, held by scholars and the great masters of international comics.
COSPLAY
The Romics Cosplay Parade, for which fans create and wear the costume of their favourite character, is Italy’s number one event in the sector, attracting thousands of young people from all over the country.
And the coveted Romics Cosplay Competition, realised in collaboration with Japanese channel Aichi TV of Nagoya, which organises the World Cosplay Summit. At Romics, the Italian representatives are selected to take part in the finals of the World Cosplay Summit which takes place every year in Nagoya.
The Italian represenatives selected at Romics 2009 went on to become WCS Champions at the finals held on 1 August 2010!
The Centre of Rome “Invaded” by Cartoon Characters – the first ever Cosplay Parade in the heart of Rome was organised by Romics last year: from Piazza del Popolo to the Spanish Steps to celebrate the creativity and colours which make up the world of comics.
ROMICS COMICS BOOK COMPETITION
Every year, the Romics Comics Book Competition in which the major Italian publishers compete, offers a panorama of the most recent and important comics publications in Italy.
The aim of the competition is to give maximum visibility to quality comics and graphic novels. The increasing popularity of the competition with publishers conferms the vitality of authorial comics.
GREAT DUBBING GALA
The Great Dubbing Gala assigns the Romics Dd Award to the best Italian voice actors. Italy’s most famous actors lend their voices to international animated TV and cinema productions and the Gala is attended by thousands of fans.
The awards will be assigned by a jury of dubbing directors and by the public who can vote on line on the websites www.romics.it and www.antoniogenna.net
The Ferruccio Amendola Award will be assigned by Rita Savagnone and the family of the great actor.
LOLIGOTH FASHION EVENT / KAWAII FASHION
Harajuku Fashion/Kawai/Loligoth event.
Romics is a nursery for new trends and was the first event in Italy to introduce these young Japanese fashions linked to the culture of manga which are increasing popular in Italy.

WORLD CYBER GAMES
The WCG is the most important international event dedicated to videogames and involved the best players worldwide. The first edition was held in 2000 in Seoul with the experimental name of WCG Challenge. Over the years, the event (defined by the press as the “Videogames Olympics”) has grown rapidly in importance and prestige. Since 2001 it goes under the name of World Cyber Games Grand Final.
A tournament with over 1 and a half million players who take part in the national finals in 77 different nations.
Since 2008 the national WCG finals have been held at Romics. All the matches are screened with professional commentary and can be followed on internet.
ENTERTAINMENT AND VIDEOGAMES
Vast entertainment area for tournaments, role-play, video-games, presentations. Since 2008 an entire salon is dedicated to the videogames section.
KIDS AREA
A special area dedicated to kids with:
non-stop screenings of films and series specially selected for younger viewers;
animation workshops
Kids Cosplay: children are invited to wear the costumes of their favourite comics characters, to take part in games and cosplay parades: a play area in which children can have fun discovering the world of animation and comics.
